SUMMER CAMP
Holyrood Church Summer Day Camp has been a program for the church for over 35 years. The church responded to the needs of the community and the church, which was to have something for the youth to do in the summer. The youth who participated in the Sunday school made this need evermore greater. Some of the staff members live in the Washington Heights community are familiar with its culture and language.
Holyrood's summer program provides a five-week recreational based program with emphasis on cultural and educational events. We offer a reading hour every morning from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. This hour is for pleasure or leisure reading with some written follow up. Children who may be non-readers are read to and assisted with the follow up. Our program operates from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. We accept children from six to twelve years old and who live all over the tri-state area. We have registered children who lived as far as Florida.
Our staff consists of persons who are qualified assistant principals, teachers, or college and high school students. We try to keep our child to adult ratio of 1:5 at all times. Besides being qualified for their jobs, the staff truly loves children and enjoys providing a safe, fun filled summer experience for them.
Children have fun at the day camp all week long. At least twice a week they go on trips, either in the city or out of state. We have a wonderful arts and crafts program three times a week; where children get a chance to express themselves creatively. We have table games as well as group games to build confidence and sportsmanship. They attend the neighborhood playground and park or participate in other recreational activities.
The entire five-week experience is geared for children to make safe choices to spend their leisure time. We also try to teach children some survival skills living in an urban setting and how to move about the city safely. We hope you will join us this camp season. *Registration is done at anytime on line or in person on Sundays during May and June.
Registration Fee is $300.00 for first child. Each additional child in the family is $50.00 less. Children must be siblings to get the reduction. Personal checks, cash or money orders can be used to pay the registration fee(s).
NOTE: No personal checks accepted once camp has started. Additional fee for T-shirt and cap is $20.00.
